October Spousal Trip – Western NC

spouse trip

Our Spousal trip will be in Virginia, from October 12th to the 16th to fish the Smith River.

The Smith River rates as one of Virginia’s strongest and most reliable trout fisheries, especially for wild brown trout. The 31‑mile special‑regulation section (Philpott → Mitchell Bridge) is dominated by naturally reproducing browns, with fish commonly in the 10–24-inch protected slot.

Sampling confirms a very healthy brown trout population.

Where will you sleep?
Lodging: #1
Hampton Inn Martinsville

Phone+1 276-647-4700

https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/mtvvahx-hampton-martinsville/

  • Free breakfast about $200/ night
  • Approximately 6 miles from Smith River Outfitters

My humble advice: If you call the number from that website, you will be sent to a Reservations company, a third party…Don’t do it. Call the direct number only. The Reservation company will do the reservations, but if you have ANY issues, the Hampton will not be able to help you. You will then have to contact the 3rd party reservation service, neer a good idea…

  • Very rustic read carefully.

 What about food?

  • Many restaurants in the area
  • I will attempt to plan one main dinner event for us all to attend, likely on Wednesday, details pending.

Cheers!
