The CFFF club members fished rivers near Bristol with a trip coordinated by Jim Murray.
Fishing was good with the dams releasing a flow of water resulting in higher water streams.
The weather was phenomenal with foliage turning color early this year. The Bristol Hotel was next door to the captivating Western Music Museum.
Spouses joined on the trip and enjoyed activities in the town of Bristol and surrounding. Several spouses ventured to enjoy some fishing/floating and may have caught the bug.
Elk Creek Outfitters provided the guides, boats and equipment. We used a line with double nymphs, the larger point nymph to get the trout’s attention and go for the trailing nymph. In this case we used midges of various colors to match the hatch. The guides were constantly changing midge colors, adding weights, and changing the height of the indicator yarn as the river depth varied. And, of course, they dealt with many of us tangling the long very light leaders. The wind on the first day made the casting of the light long rigging a challenge.
We had some nice catches with Nancy Fuller getting the largest 17.5” Rainbow trout. Her catch put up a great fight, trying to run to the anchor and the shoreline to probably tangle and break the line.
Our guides prepared hot lunches of crab cakes and tuna steaks on alternate days.
The fast water was not conducive to wading, all fishers floated the rivers.
Some photos of the fishing are posted here.
