Striper Fishing – Weldon

I plan to take at least one of my Jon boats and see if someone else can trailer the second one.  Yeah, there are big rocks here and there, and yeah, I have had to buy a couple of new props after being there, and yeah, I had to replace a lower unit, in part for having been up there a batch of times. 

But guides are expensive (Allen Cain was $900 per boat per day plus tip a couple of years ago.).  My two boats will each handle three people- two anglers and a driver (who will get a few turns fishing).  And I have had several 100+ fish days (per person).  Boats can be fixed, and 6 people don’t have to worry about hiring a guide.  So, that’s the name of that story. 

Go up early May 1.  Fish that afternoon and all day on May 2.  Possibly fish the morning of May 3 and head home that afternoon or head home that morning.  (Or some combination of fishing those days.).

Kayakers are discouraged from taking this trip. The current is very strong, and most fishing is either in the swift currents at the launching ramp or a mile or so down river.  Kayaking will be dangerous and exhausting
