Oyster Roast

Saturday, February 24, 2024

3:00-6:00 pm

115 SW Yacht Drive, Oak Island, NC

(Home of Ann & Jim White)

Deadline for reservations: Sunday, February 18- need to order oysters

 What, when & where

  1. Belly up to the Oyster Table under our house for oysters that have been steamed or roasted.  We hope to have Topsail oysters (wild) and Stump Sounds (farmed).  Both have good saltiness and taste good.  We can even throw a few on ice if you want them raw on the half-shell.  OYSTER KNIVES will help but the cooked oysters will open from the heat and be easy to open, though you will need something to remove the oyster from the shell.  For all you can eat, A DONATION OF $10 will help.   Tasting one or two is free.
  2.  Don’t like oysters?  Bring what you do like (burger, steak, chicken, kabobs hot dogs, etc.) One grill will be dedicated to non-oysters.
  3.  Participating households are asked to BRING A DISH TO SHARE (salad, veggies, dessert, bread, etc.)- whatever is your favorite to share.
  4.  Weather on the edge of the continent can get crazy.  We will be eating outside (under the house).  The Man Cave will be open with a bathroom and all sorts of fishing stuff to examine.  There are only 4 rocking chairs under our home.  So, BRING A FOLDING CHAIR.
  5.  We will have coolers if you want to keep your beer or wine cold.  There will be plenty of ice for your drinks- tea, soft drinks, hard liquor.  It’s BYOB so bring what you want to drink.  We will have plenty of bottled water in one cooler- chilled and ready to share.  If you plan on partying hardy, please make sure you have a designated driver.  The OKI Police love to patrol our bridges in particular.
  6.  Carpooling will help cut down on traffic.  We will reserve places for those who can’t walk far.  I will alert the neighbors that people may be parking in front of their homes.  We are having an oyster roast for them the next day so I bet they will be pleased to have you fill up the street.
  7.  If you have somewhere else you have to be that day, let me know.  Several have told me already and we will have a mini-rain check roast for them at a later date.
  8.  Remember to let us know how many are coming (and how many in your party want oysters). Call or email by Sunday, February 18.  (910) 477-0441 or jwwhite115@gmail.com
  9.  Hot sauces.  I use Tabasco so if there is one or more you like, bring it.  You may convert some of us.
  10. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call.  We will have plates, utensils, tons of paper towels, cups and Saltine Crackers.
  11.  Directions: Take either bridge to Oak Island.  Turn right at the first traffic light onto Oak Island Drive.  Drive west until W. Oak Island Drive dead-ends at the Stop sign.  Turn LEFT onto SW Yacht Drive.  Follow if for its one block.  Drive up on the gravel- our home is on the left- 115 SW Yacht Drive.
