Southport Public Access Fishing
Southport Walk in/ Public Access Fishing
Southport Waterfront- (in front of community building) Excellent place for big flounder and trout. You can park and walk down to the small beach. Short walk-lots of structure — take a look at low tide and then remember where the rocks are.
Caswell Beach Access- (the big parking lot- before the light house) Look for wreck boiling just off the beach near the west end of the access- excellent for big flounder and trout as well as bluefish and Spanish.
NC Baptist Assembly-Walking to the “rip” around the beach- The rip forms on an outgoing tide at the tip of Oak Island. It is within the Baptist assembly but you can park at the public access and walk around to it- it’s a long walk but can be worth it. Blues and Spanish will be waiting for bait to wash out. Link to the parking spot.
Wildlife Creek- Down from the wildlife boat ramp is a new park equipped with even a restroom. You can park there and walk to wildlife creek from there. The rocks at the end of the creek hold some really big trout and plenty of 16-18″ redfish. Take plenty of flies you will lose some to the rocks.
Oak Island (Davis Canal)- Public access is at the end of every street on Davis canal. Great place to go when it’s windy and an excellent place to canoe or kayak. 1 like fishing the middle to lower-end — starting at SW 12th street to about SW 20th street. Trout, flounder, redfish, and drum (black and red) are all possible here.
Lockwood Folly/Sunset Harbor (Wildlife Ramp)- The rocks at the wildlife landing in sunset harbor will hold some trout and flounder. You can park there and fish right beside the ramp.
