Matias Claret and Fran Bottero of SET Flyfishing in Argentina were our guest speakers. They gave an in-depth presentation of fly fishing for Golden Dorado, Surubi, etc., from three separate lodges on the upper Parana River as well as the Ysoro and Ibera Wetlands in northern and north central Argentina. Main points for fishing these waters: September to May (southern hemisphere) is best fishing season. Golden Dorado spawn in the upper reaches of the Parana and the eggs float downstream to the wetlands.
Always fish structure for Dorado. Streamers are an excellent lure. An active and lengthy discussion followed. Al Roy, who has fished with SET previously noted that SET is a first-class operation that provides all tackle if requested and does an excellent job with logistics. The food and beverage service is outstanding. SET also has very experienced guides who are well versed on the habits of the local fish.
